  • Cook Dojo, Cook Community Hall, 41 Templeton St, Cook
    Saturday, 1 December, 2012 - 20:00 to Sunday, 2 December, 2012 - 00:30

    Saturday 1st December

    We'll have training 9:00-10:30 (yes, starting 30 mins earlier than usual), and then we'll have an Embukai (dojo demos) 10:30 - 11:00. Clare will organise Erindale people to do a demo, Bruce will organise Tengoku people (Mike is away on a trip to Antarctica), Laurie AIS and Nigel Cook.

    We'll then retire to the kitchen (or outside if it is nice) and have a lunch and tea/coffee. Lunch will be a light affair of buns, salads and meat supplied by the club. Orange juice and other drinks will also be supplied. If people would like to bring a cake/sweet to share afterwards, then please do so.

    Your whole family is welcome to come! They may be interested to come and watch the Embukai and see what you've been up to with your training.

    Trina is coordinating things, but if you have questions, just ask your instructor. Hope you can make it.

  • Erindale Dojo
    Saturday, 24 November, 2012 - 09:00 to 18:00

    On Saturday 24 November the junior students at Erindale dojo will be having a grading.

    Please feel free to come along and see how the next generation of aikidoka are shaping up.

    From tiny tackers trying for their 7th kyu, right up to one dedicated student going for his junior 1st kyu (quite a sight).

    Any Dan grades who aren't training at Cook and would care to sit in on the grading panel would be most welcome.

    The grading will run from 9am to approximately 11:30.

    A sausage sizzle lunch will follow, after which, from about 1pm - 6pm we will be holding a working bee to spruce up the dojo.

    We will be:

    - taking everything off the walls;

    - removing the mats;

    - giving the room a thorough clean and a coat of paint;

    - patching the holes in the walls;

    - replacing the broken window winders;

    - any other little repairs that need doing.

    Anyone who can spare anytime at all, be it 30 minutes or the whole afternoon, is most welcome to come & give us a hand.

  • Living Green Festival, Albert Hall
    Sunday, 14 October, 2012 - 12:00 to 13:00

    Hi all

     Living Green Festival Demo - lunchtime?

    I've booked a demo at the Living Green Festival, around lunchtime, near the kids area.  Probably 30-60 mins depending on their final offer.  It's free, and we can promote ourselves during the demo, so it would be great to have a number of people, like last year, dressed in full gi, to do the demo, and hand out cards and chat about Aikido while the demo is happening.  This would also be a good opportunity to coordinate the Beginner's course to start the following week, and a discount for those who come via the LGF.

     So can we have a show of numbers as to who is able to attend?  It's 10am-4pm 14th October at Albert Hall.

     No stall or TV needed this year, unless others really want to do it, in which case, contact Monty asap so we can arrange it.  One big bang at lunchtime, and I'll keep cards/promo material at my stall otherwise.

    Dear friends

    We have mentioned to many of you that it is AK Orange’s 10th Anniversary this year and that we are planning to celebrate the milestone in October. Preliminary details have been posted on our website and are copied here:

    10th Anniversary Celebrations in October

    Our 10th anniversary celebrations will take place in the week beginning Monday October 15th, culminating in a weekend of training on October 20th and 21st led by Steve Seymour Sensei. All members of Aikido Kenkyukai clubs are invited to attend, especially those who have trained with us in Orange (once or many times) over the past 10 years. Please contact Stephen Nugent or Fiona Hawke on 6361 0129 for further details.

    If you are able to join us for the seminar, please complete and return the Registration Form to us byOctober 12th. This is essential in order to help us organise and cater for the weekend. A brochure will follow in the near future with a more detailed program for the weekend.

  • Sydney City
    Saturday, 29 September, 2012 (All day) to Sunday, 30 September, 2012 (All day)
  • Saturday, 18 August, 2012 (All day) to Sunday, 19 August, 2012 (All day)

    On the weekend of August 18/19, Balmain will be hosting a workshop on the Internal Power or "aiki" that is the fundamental basis of all martial Arts and sorely missing from Aikido. It is the vital element of O sensei's teaching yet has virtually been lost in the intervening 50yrs since his passing. IT is still apparent in the Chinese Internal Arts and a few determined individuals from Daito Ryu and Aikido have worked hard to keep the practises alive and accessible.

    Dr Michael Dreyer spent  a week in East coast USA in June at one of these intensives and will be conducting training and passing on his observations, experience and practises.

    Simon Wong will be also teaching some practises from his background in both Karate and Taichi. There is no difference in the principles of Inner Power from across all the martial arts. What is different is the form in which it is expressed, and obviously we are interested in aikido ( the way of "aiki") as its expression.

    I will also explain how we seem to have gotten into this situation throughout the aikdo and Japanese Budo world. Comments from significant people in our heritage will also be passed on.

    Classes will be from 8am saturday through to 2pm with break for brunch.

    Then again on sunday from 9am to 12 pm.

    Please bring a bokken.

    Cost will be $60 for the weekend or $25 per session. All funds will be used to pay for dojo hire and reimbursement of Dr Dreyer's airfare. Any surplus will be used to subsidise future events.

    There will also be time for discussion in the afternoon/evening for all to participate, along with refreshments.

    I am sure this will be a stimulating weekend for all who participate. It will not be a usual aikido event.
