    Not long to go now until our beloved teacher and dear friend, Yoshinobu Takeda Shihan, joins us from Japan to celebrate the 12th anniversary of our dojo and share his latest feeling! Takeda Shihan is regarded as one of the greatest masters of Aikido and is renowned the world over for his innovative genius and liberating style of training. He is constantly evolving and discovering new dimensions to the practice.

    AKI students from all over the world are warmly invited to join us in Sydney this November for an exciting, uplifting and inspiring weekend of Aikido training. In addition to the wonderful chance to study with Takeda Shihan outside of Japan, spring is an especially beautiful time of year here in south-eastern Australia and opportunities for sightseeing within Sydney and the national parks of the surrounding coasts and mountains abound.

    For safety and comfort, spaces on the mat will be limited so please register ASAP to avoid disappointment. We very much look forward to welcoming you in Sydney, Australia, this spring!

    Bill Gleason 7th dan Shihan

    Directly from Hawaii where Bill conducted a combined seminar with Dan Harden who is a master of Internal Power. Bill will teach the exercises necessary to develop "aiki". the missing component of ALL Budo. Gleason Shihan has transformed his aikido and is in huge demand in USA. Dont miss this chance as it will be difficult for him to return to Australia in the future.

    Open to all aikidoists of all styles.

  • Cook dojo

    There will be a cross-training session held at the Cook dojo on Saturday 29th August. It will be followed by a grading session, and AGM.

    The agenda, and approximate timings will be:

    • 8:15am. Cook students set up mats etc.
    • 8:30am. Cross-training and grading sessions.
    • 11:00am. AKI Canberra Annual General Meeting.

    Please take this opportunity to train with members of other local dojos, and other instructors. And to help your fellow students during their gradings. And feel free to put your hand up during the AGM to help the Committee run the club.

    The Aikido Kenkyukai ACT Xmas Party will be held at Cook Dojo Sat 21 Dec.

    Training 8:30-11:00, followed by a light lunch of salad, buns, meats and fruit salad, as well as cake and tea/coffee.

    This is a great opportunity to catch up and train with Mike and Bruce, as well as Laurie who will be returning from a training seminar with Dan Harden in Hawaii.

    All are welcome! Hope you can come and celebrate another great year of training and aiki advancement! :-)

    Aikido Kenkyukai Canberra will participate in a demo of Japanese martial arts at the annual Nara Candle Festival.

     

    Demo at Lennox Gardens (behind Hyatt Hotel next to Lake)

    Sat 26 Oct between 5 and 6:30.

    We will need volunteers to pick up Mats from Cook dojo.

    I am please to announce that AKI Canberra has been successfully listed as a provider of Aikido Beginners Courses in the Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) Short Courses.

    We will be kicking off on 13 June 2013 for a 4 week introduction course to cover Aikido basics, including the principles of Aikido, basic techniques, footwork and will lead into continued training in Aikido.
